Remembrance Day 2015

Remembrance Day 2015 will be commemorated this year on Sunday 8th November.  In addition to the normal large scale event at the Ceneotaph in London there will be many events staged across the country as a whole.

No longer simply a commemoration of WW1, the day has become an occasion on which we remember everyone who gave their lives in conflict across the globe.  It therefore seemed to me to be appropriate to use the RAFES plaque to remind us of those that this Society remember in particular, our Helpers.    Many of the nation who attend a service will know nothing of the bravery and sacrifice of countless individuals across occupied Europe, without whose assistance thousands of Allied personnel would have been either captured or killed.  As Sir Winston Churchill so aptly expressed it:

‘This is no war of chieftains or of princes, of dynasties or national ambition; it is a war of peoples and of causes. There are vast numbers, not only in this Island but in every land, who will render faithful service in this war, but whose names will never be known, whose deeds will never be recorded. This is a War of the Unknown Warriors’.

Let us remember those Unknown Warriors.
