ELMS Reunion Week

Sulmona is one of the oldest towns in Abruzzo, with many buildings from the middle ages or earlier. It is well known for being the native town of the poet Ovid and  is a secluded and somewhat overlooked small city in Abruzzo. Commemoration of F Section, SOE, Valencay.

The annual Commemoration of F Section of SOE takes place on the 6th May.  This event remembers the 104 SOE operatives who lost their lives working to liberate France.  Details of this year’s event are as follows: Friday 5th May – 1700 – Ceremony at the War memorial of Romorantin overseen by the Mayor.  This is a small informal event to commemorate four SOE agents who were part of or sheltered by the ADOLPHE network. Tenna Valley Freedom Trail, Italy

The Tenna Valley Trail takes place in the Marche region of Italy, based on the town of Servigliano.  The town was the site of PG 59, one of two camps in the area.  Following the Italian armistice in September 1943 many Allied POWs were sheltered in homes in villages in the local area.  The trail visits a number of  these villages each year to commemorate the part played by Italians in saving many of our forebears.  If you wish to…

The ELMS Family Day The annual ELMS ‘Picnic in the Park’ will take place in the Allied Special Forces Grove on Saturday 05th August. All members and their families and guests are welcome to attend. Allied Air Forces Memorial Day

This event takes place on the 2nd September at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York. Allied Air Forces Day is attended by hundreds of servicemen and veterans from all over UK, and is one of the largest events of its kind in Britain. Regular annual commemorations for various squadrons, units and regiments take place at the Museum.  The event is open to all and full details will appear on the Museum website in due course.

The Crow’s Flight Trail

This trail event retraces the route taken by Allied POWs who were freed from Stalag XVlllD at Maribor in Slovenia (formerly Yugoslavia) to their eventual extraction point from an airfield at Otok.  The route is approximately 200 miles from start to finish and is usually conducted in three separate phases. Since its inception, the format of the long weekend has consisted of the ‘ceremonial’ on the Friday – laying wreaths at War Memorials and the graves of Comète notables; visiting the “Villa Voisin“, Anglet (Comète operations in SW France controlled from here) and Vins d’Honneur at St-Jean-de-Luz and Anglet. This event commemorates those who were involved with the Comet Line and takes place in Brussels.  It is an annual event held on the weekend closest to the 20th October, when a group of Comete Line Helpers were executed at the Tir National.
